No matter how small the project is, label it! At a minimum, include the name of the maker, date completed, and where it was made. You can also include other information such as quilt recipient and occasion.
Paper Piecing
Use a small stitch length (18-20 stitches per inch) when using paper foundations, so that the stitches do not rip out when the paper is removed.
Use a dry iron when pressing. Steam could cause the paper foundation and/or fabric to shrink or distort.
Block Layout
When laying out the blocks for a quilt, take pictures with your phone. Then you can play with different block placements and pick your favorite. Added bonus: Once you start sewing it together, you have a visual of the entire project if you need it.
Washing Instructions
Include washing instructions and a phosphate-free laundry soap whenever you gift a quilt. It will be a gentle reminder to treat this gift with love and care.
